Saturday Scenes: Checking In

I’ll be the first to admit – there’s no pic of me in my check-in. I’m hard to photograph when I’m the camera holding person!

Checking In

Checking in from A Far

Cats, check! Our house cat, Sam, is still curious what I’m doing beside his sunny spot. Our feral kitty still won’t let us get within a few feet of her.

Checking In

My household

My not-a-morning-person went from sprawled in bed to sprawled on couch. And the guy was mobile and ready to go save the day nice and early. Save the day being an in joke about fixing all the busted computers and gizmos he comes across for his day job (and side job!).

As for, I’m finishing packing and planning for our few days out of town!

Belatedly Following Trends

An Etsy customer asked if I could make her little acorn pendants of a certain size. I’d resisted jumping on the acorn bead boat because a lot of my fellow clayers were already there but I’d pretty much decided to make a few just before I got the inquiry. This was good timing.

Acorns!

She bought the whole lot I’d made but I’ll make a few more and some caned ones to use as “disc” beads, too. Trying to make a few more offerings based on cane slices that would fit nicely in with the rest.

Firming Up Ideas

I make a LOT of polymer clay beads. Beads are wonderful because they’re the ultimate instant gratification – pretty much anyone can scrape up enough patience to make a nice looking bead at least once. And really, for me, the process is just that repeated over and over.

Then I have piles of beads and orders for finished items – or shows coming up – and I have moments of panic. I like making jewellery, honest! It’s just never as quick a process as making those cute little beads was though.

Five Flowers

This year, in particular, I have a bunch of higher end shows I’m in the process of applying for so I need pictures more indicative of what I will bring to the show to set me apart from the half dozen other polymer clayers and the 30 or 50 other jewellery craft folks. I’ve been trying hard to think in lines so that I can show a variety of related awesome pieces and it is just now starting to come together.

The Orange Cat

Our Feral Cat

This pretty orange kitty is, I believe, one of last spring or summers kittens born in a neighbour’s outbuilding by the creek. I’d see them running around the creek path and I know at least two were hit by cars along our street. We inadvertently locked this one in our garage a few weeks ago and since then I’ve been leaving it a little dish of dry food on the edge of our deck. This gal (or guy) is feral. She won’t let me near her even after two weeks of snacks and stares.

Bead Soup Ingredients

So now that I know my partner and I have each received our goodies I’m allowed to post pictures! Which is awesome since I got the COOLEST beads (insert little squeeeee sounds). I even know a couple pieces they’ll turn into.

Cilla of TellYourGirlfriends fame sent me:

Soup!

I see at least two necklaces with that. One with most of the lampwork and turquoise and another with a ceramic focal, the pretty copper beads and clasp and a couple clay beads i have that would work, I think. The face bead is definitely getting flowers with it. I do faces in flowers.

This is what I sent to Cilla:

Soup!

Not sure what she’ll dream up from that but there’s plenty to mix around!
