Summer Weekends

This Weekends Beads

The last day of school is tomorrow and that’s always marked the start of summer to me (yes, even now as an adult!). I made that big tray of flowers and slice beads to start refilling my stock and orders and projects for the show this week. In other bits of life, I stared at the pretty flowers that are starting to show up:

Peony First Lilies

And the Mad House Renovator took time out of his schedule to help me find a picture of the nearby highway for another project. While the highway pics are boring I snapped a good pic of him and the car lit by the sunset.

Random Beadiness

Stash

Last week about this time I was at the bead show, mostly manning my booth but occasionally visiting the other vendors of awesomeness. With my clay beads, you really only need a bit of accent so I tend to stick to simple stone, pearl, glass and metal beads and use my own as the focal beads. And there was a seriously overwhelming amount of that!

A few other beads snuck in this year though. As always, we nabbed a kitty from Dragonfire Studios. And those beads on the right of the picture are wound paper beads from Uganda – specifically from a group called Akonye Kena. They work with youth in the area to teach them a marketable skill and how to parlay that into self-sufficient businesses and lives. I bought a few strands to play with and they’ll be some nifty necklaces pretty quick!

Meet CNewcomb

This weeks installation of Meet an ArtFire Smoosher’s guild member is about CNewcomb, a dad to two daughters from Cypress, Texas.

CNewcomb combines his fancy scroll saw work – which completely puts my newbie efforts at it – to shame with polymer clay. He cuts shapes and then backfills with polymer clay to enhance it like this example:

My favourite pieces in his shop are his more complicated scroll saw ones though. Check out this lacy card holder:

The Handmade in Canada Party

The TransCanada Etsy Team and the Alberta Etsy Team are joining forces for a Canada Day Party! The TransCanada team has organized a treasure hunt and two seriously awesome prizes as part of the whole deal. There are a ton of details in the post about it, so check that out.

I’ll be offering my crowd favourite FREE SHIPPING in my Etsy shops until July 4th (may as well celebrate the south of the border folks too!). You can see what the rest of the Alberta Team is up to as well!

I Broke It

I updated my WordPress – love my WordPress – to version 3.0 which resulted in a break in an older plugin. That happens to be my Shop plugin, poor thing.

I have some tinkering to do under the hood to get that bit fixed but if you have a yen for all things Tooaquarius, check out my ArtFire shop for the better selection of goodies:
