The Shop: Faces

Face Beads

Some of my favourite beads are the ones that are just a little odder, with the faces and critters on them. Here are some of my girl beads in my Etsy or Artfire shops.

For the Christmas season I have some angel ones planned that could work as focal beads or decorations (knot onto a nice piece of ribbon and hang, voila!)

Cleared for Take Off

I have these trays of beads that are waiting for the last batch of little girl beads to be finished so I can toss the whole deal in the oven. This bunch looks like UFOs cleared for take off.

Flying Saucers

But the computer related work is dragging me away from the studio table! Sometimes I believe I need a clone.

The Shop: Beads by the Dozen

I sell most of my beads in sets of 6 or in pairs. Perfect to make up a single project. Sometimes I have had requests for several sets of 6 and so this got me to photograph beads by the dozen. These are listed on my site and on ArtFire in each colour theme and then each shape, as I make new batches.

Here are a few listed on ArtFire in a variety of shapes and colour:

Next up are the black and white series followed by greens and what’s left to round out the catalogue.

Other People’s Studios

Since I moved from a small apartment to a house at the end of June and picked up my own office-studio-cave in the process, I’ve been a tad obsessed on how it should get set up.

Part of that obsession has resulted in me stalking the studio, home office and craft room groups on Flickr. And then there’s the results for a simple Google image search on ‘craft room organization’.

book on womens work spaces

I found a book in the library – amidst the other house decorating books – called: Where Women Create: Inspiring Work Spaces of Extraordinary Women by Jo Packham.

Overall, the studios are overdecorated and cutesy for my taste but you could easily just pick and choose ideas to take away. I was happy to see a whole, contemporary, book devoted to professional craft artists work spaces.

I have to admit that I haven’t got my little space quite how I want it yet – it will require some more TLC and different wall shelves but it has gotten good use even as it is. I am hunting up textiles at the local thrift shops after seeing a few of the amazing simple sewing projects Lisa has done with such the last two years.

My Aunt Jeanne

Jeanne's Beads

My aunt Jeanne loved the brightest, cheeriest florals you could find on her blouses. It was a long-standing family joke which she was entirely unapologetic for. For such a quiet, shy person it was a big statement. She was one of the few family and friends who insisted, quietly but no discussion allowed, on paying the whole price for my work and she collected it consistently. When she retired from her nursing career, she stepped in to care for other family members.

Jeanne & Trystin

On July 18, my aunt Jeanne died from liver cancer. And yes, the floral arrangements were the absolute brightest ones to be found.

Weekend Snapshots

We just finished up a long weekend with, oddly, nothing much planned. There was visiting done, snacks eaten, puttering around, video games played, beads made (they’re tumbling), a little work done, peas shelled, flowers photographed, swimming and some decluttering. Which sounds like a lot but really it was all little snapshots.

Jump Ups Give Peas a Chance

The computers are all older systems that were cluttering space and have gone on to a new, more appreciative home. The remaining herd of them are laptops which store. Most people say, oh, we have 2 or 3 computers. Our household? Easily a dozen, down from two dozen. And yes, most work.

That big open space had a large pool table in it until a few hours ago. It was an odd arrangement and we finally folded it up and took it downstairs to the game room. The boyfriend had been nervous that it would not fit down the staircase. It did fit and is now in a happier place with the other games.

The final two are snapshots of those summer essentials. Some Johnny Jump Ups from a friends garden and many bowls of shelled peas from the vegetable portion of the same.
